How do I become a model?

Many top models are spotted in the streets by model scouts, but these are very lucky. Failing this you can apply directly to our agency. Contact us with your application by email. We require clear headshots, half length and full length snapshot type photos or professional photographs if you have them.

What does it take to be a model?

To be a professional model you first need the right attitude and be passionate about modelling. Modelling can be very hard work, so determination and a drive to work hard is essential. For fashion modelling you do need to meet the minimum requirements, and for other types of modelling you need to have a look that will get you noticed. Models also need to be confident and enjoy performing in front of others. Taking care of your body is a major requirement as fitness, good skin and hair are imperative. Working well with others is also essential; it takes more than just a model and photographer to have a successful photo shoot, such as a team of creative’s to create the right look. You'll also need to be able to sell yourself and promote yourself to clients to ensure them that you are available for work and love what you do.

What are the general minimum requirements to being a model?

For Fashion Modelling the requirements are quite strict, with specifications made for height and body measurements. Females should have bust-waist-hip measurements of around 34-24-34 inches (86-61-86cms) and be at least five feet eight inches (1.72m) tall . Males should have a 38-40 inch (97-102cm) chest and a 30-32 inch (76-81cm) waist and be at least six feet (1.83m) tall. For all types of modelling (boys and girls), unless something different is asked for, you should have a healthy, fit, well-toned, well looked after body, flawless skin, and healthy hair and nails. For people not meeting the basic requirements for fashion modelling other types of modelling should be considered, such as commercial and promotional modelling.

Do I need to have professional photographs taken before I apply to agencies?

No, it is not essential but it can be a bonus, however snap shot photos will be fine. Make sure that you have at least one good close up of your face and a full length photo of yourself. If you are suitable the agency will arrange for a test photo shoot with one of our preferred photographers.

What types of modelling are there and what is the difference?

There are various types of modelling including fashion modelling (for example catalogues) through to clothed glamour (seen magazines such as FHM or Maxim) and glamour (page 3 of the Sun) to catwalk, fitness, lingerie and many more. Generally, fashion models are taller and more slender. This is so because height commands more presence on runways, and designers and stores who provide pieces for shows and shoots, tend to provide them in smaller sizes. In addition, fashion models must be photogenic, which means that their features tend to be more symmetrical.

Commercial models must hold a wide range of talents, such as acting and dancing, so that they may be considered for a variety of jobs. These models are most desirable for clients, who want to portray a certain image for their products or services (example: ethnic diversity), or for clients who need a model with a special talent to convey their messages (example: ability to figure skate). However, here at Slaves To Vanity we specialise in commercial fashion, fitness, glamour and lingerie.

What is promotional modelling?

Promotional modelling is live modelling. They are usually done at tradeshows, in the street or live events, where models dress a certain part and/or handout promotional materials. Speaking and interacting with clients and customers are sometimes required.

What qualities does a model need to possess?

Much the same as in any other professional job really; modelling is in no way an easy ride. You must be determined, set goals for yourself and be committed to achieving them. Many models will find they cannot attend a shoot for many weeks and will eventually give up, it is important to be flexible and punctual. Always respond to phone calls and e-mails and ensure that you can clear your time to attend a shoot should the need arise.

Why should I choose Slaves To Vanity Model Agency?

In a short period of time, Slaves To Vanity has catapulted itself to being a top agency in the UK, representing some of the UKs top fashion, fitness and glamour models.

While other agencies represent several hundred models, we only represent a selected few, so that models are not competing within their own agency. Slaves To Vanity also does not make money from your composite cards and photography, as many agencies do. We also do not charge models for being on our web site. The only fee we charge is the standard 20% commission from your bookings. While the agency maybe newly established, it has a team of industry professionals behind it and the fresh face with excellent rates in the industry is causing a buzz.
